Search Engine Protection is also known as Search Engine Image Protection (SEIP). SEIP combines both the expertise of PR management and Search Engine Management (SEM). SEIP is designed to help protect the image, impression, and reputation of a company, organization, or product or service.

Since many depend on online businesses today for income and have invested a great deal of money into the business, it is important to protect the company’s image. Most brand managers and marketers do not want any negative publicity that may affect the company’s image or reputation in any way. Business could easily be affected since the amount of online users and visitors shopping or surfing or researching the Web for a particular product or service to purchase or sign up for has greatly increased.

Some SEIP strategies include pushing negative feedback or comments up to ten pages down which prevents it from popping up in search results. Keep in mind though that it is not completely hidden. Believe it or not, there are some patient people out there who will read each and every review on a particular product. Although not completely fool proof, it certainly helps keep negative comments from appearing in the top search results.

Another strategy is to continuously post press releases or blog articles. This will keep all information on your product or service current and push the outdated, negative information, if any, out of the search results. Also, inserting META tags in blog articles will help increase SEO. META tags are a brief, one sentence description on the blog article. Search engines will pull the information from the META tag so it appears in search results.

Another technique to consider is posting blogs or press releases. Blogging has become a new popular thing to do on the Internet. And there is a reason why. Blogging helps attract readers, thus attracting potential new business and increasing SEO.

Furthermore, blogging or posting press releases on a regular basis will help to push down any unwanted or outdated content or comments. To further enhance SEO, inserting META tags in blogs is a good idea. A META tag is a code that is embedded within the text of a blog that is a one line or sentence description of the content. META tags, as a result, will help search engines to pick up keywords from your blog and populating in search results.

Another effective way to deal with negative or harmful feedback is to directly respond to these comments. This is called a counterattack. A well thought out and strategized counterattack will turn around the thought and put a positive spin on any negative feedback. It is also a good idea to do this in the case that any unwanted comments pop up in search engines, your counterattack will pop up as well. This way, readers are less likely to negatively judge your company. Especially if you took the time to address the concerns.

Finally, another way to address any bad press is to directly respond to it. If an offender or “slanderer” posts a negative comment, simply respond to it positively. Your counterattack will show up in search results as well as the posted comment. This way, readers or any potential customers will be able to form their own opinions instead of judging your company.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
